Research 2 : What Are the Effects of Advertising on Consumers?

Source :
What are the effects of advertising on consumers?
http://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-the-effects-of-advertising-on-consumers.htm

My Topic :
The appear of many kinds of advertisements affects people to buy and to contact with the products.

What I hope to learn from this source :
I want to find out the consumer's  thoughts about advertisements.

Notes :

   1.  After viewing an ad, a consumer may decide that his or her usual product either seems better or worse that the one being advertised, without knowing exactly why.

  2. In the case of advertising that provides statistics or facts, this information may convince a consumer to switch brands.

  3. Direct response advertising , such as the infomercial programming often shown late at night on many television stations, works much differently than ads that have brand awareness or future buying decision effects.

  4. Persuasive effects of advertising are especially effective on children.

  5. Although parents ultimately are the ones who make the buying decisions, the children watching the commercials pushing products that grab their interest typically ask a parent to buy the items.

Final Thoughts :
This source show that the children are affected by the advertisement. It can be one example which tell the advertising effect. I have to find some statistics or facts to prove it. Also through the second facts, i could know people care about the commercial because the statistics and facts move one's mind, and first note show that people are conscious of the commercial even they don't know why. (I think I have to find some visual auditory effects on human.)

Week 3 - Classical argument outline

1. The introduction, which warms up the audience, establishes goodwill and rapport with the readers, and announces the general theme or thesis of the argument.
I will start by describing the situation everyone is already familiar with: The various kinds of     advertisements are positioned all over. Then I will talk about the positive effects of the advertisement. I will end with my thesis, "The various type of advertisements give positive effects to people."
2. The narration, which summarizes relevant background material, provides any information the audience needs to know about the environment and circumstances that produce the argument, and set up the stakes-what’s at risk in this question. In academic writing, this often takes the form of a literature review.
I will summarize the research about the advertising effect, actually about the effect of the commercial models, the change of sales rate and etc. Also I will provide the definition of the advertising effect and the examples of this phenomenon. I will give a brief history of the change of the advertisements and its type. The risk in this question is that we can't sure about the sales rate is just increase because of the commercial. We cannot ignore other factors. Also there are some opinions which said that the advertisements have negative effects.
3. The confirmation, which lays out in a logical order (usually strongest to weakest or most obvious to most subtle) the claims that support the thesis, providing evidence for each claim.
I will start by showing some examples that indicate the sales rate which is soared, and connect this with the commercial. Also I will find some facts about individual kind of advertisement (the type of advertisement)'s effect case by case. I will examine the people's preference of the commercial models and the effect (the purchase proportion) . Also I will find some effects after the commercial models appear overlapped. Then I will show that people don't have perfect thinking that they can be swayed by external factors. The last one is that the advertisements are so overflowing that we cannot ignore this. For example, the internet banner ad, video ad before starting the youtube or tv programs.

4. The refutation and concession, which looks at opposing viewpoints to the writer’s claims, anticipating objections from the audience, and allowing as much of the opposing viewpoints as possible without weakening the thesis.
I will concede that some people didn't agree that the advertisement effect is positive, but until now many commercials attract people and the "advertising effect" has positive effects. Also current people have many  common favors. I will show them the actual statistics which indicate the situation (the change of people's preference) that the model or the image's change. I'll suggest the graph that show the 'Yuna Kim''s advertising effects. After selecting her, 'Maeil milk''s sales soared almost 400 percents. Also opponents could said that the preference of purchase is related to other factors. Then I will tell them the process of making the advertisement. (To investigate, analysis, and processing )
5. The summation, which provides a strong conclusion, amplifying the force of the argument,  and showing the readers that this solution is the best at meeting the circumstances.
I will close with a summary of my previous points, and tell people the successful examples of emotional advertisements which make people be moved. It will be effective because almost emotional advertisements stimulate one's mind. I will end with a reemphasize my thesis.

Week 3 - Articulation

1) My argument
I want to argue that the appear of many kinds of advertisements affects people to buy and to contact with the products. We can see various kinds of advertisements like paper, video and installation and they affect our behaviors like purchase products, charity for the poor, and change recognition.

2) How I found my argument
My first research question was, Is it true that the advertisement has positive effect? Actually my research question is not changed that much, just concrete the advertisement's scope and to argue the positive aspects of the advertisement. These change help me to divide the scope into three, the paper, video and installation, and find more detailed examples. Also to limit the aspects in positive side can make readers' attention into the positive side. It can induce the readers to think that the advertisement has the positive effects and that is the most important factor in my essay.

3) New research questions
I have several questions that need to be resolved.
a) Which way (the paper, video and installation) is the most effective way to attract people?
b) What kinds of advertisement (the genre) is most effective?
c) Did people affect by the advertisement in real way?

4) Connections to the Harvard Sampler
This argument has a connection to the Harvard Sampler. This argument is related to the human mind. The advertisement effect is related to the response of the human and it also participates in the human's behavior. Because of the ads, sometimes people decided to buy or not to buy some products and people buy more when the actor or actress they like is appear on the commercial. Therefore we can not ignore the relations between the human mind and advertisement effect.

Week 3 - Research 1. : Effects Of Advertisements On Society

Source :
Effects Of Advertisements On Society

My Topic :
The appear of many kinds of advertisements affects people to buy and to contact with the products.

What I hope to learn from this source :
I want to find some reasons to prove that the advertisement effect is existed and some examples that show how the advertisement affects the society.

Notes :
  1. Advertising has proven to be a powerful force in terms of persuading society to patronize the product, service, or idea that a firm is selling.

   2. In India, every year, the government advertises in radio, TV and newspaper to get their children Polio vaccination if they are between zero to five years. The success rate has been over 80 %.

  3. Seeking help through advertisement during epidemics or natural calamities can help a lot.

4.Our society and the marketing of products depend so badly on advertisement that even its negative impact on society can't outweigh the many positive social and economical effects. (negative)

  5. Materialism is being much glorified through advertisements, which can again have dangerous consequences Society is becoming ignorant towards social or world issues because we are too obsessed to satisfy our newly created needs. (negative)

Final Thoughts :
This source has both positive and negative opinions, but i think i need more information about the advertisement effects and the examples. Also i need more proven statistics about the effect. I need some refutation of that opinion 3,4. I think find more good side of advertisement is needed.
